Magnificent saturated translucent colors, captivating formal abstractions, metal collages of biomorphic shape and form, can only begin to describe the work of artist Clayton Swartz. With his signature style, aluminum sculptures are bent, molded, cut, heated, and welded into abstract forms ranging from the sea and its creatures to urban cityscapes. He started his art career as an abstract painter while at St. Petersburg College and later moved into metal sculpture after receiving his Bachelors of Arts in Fine Art from the University of South Florida. As a young boy Clayton’s spark for welding and the creative process was set as he watched his father weld and braze metals into unique sculptures. Clayton is interested in the physical act that goes into his work; he describes it as a performance or dance with the material a chance to change something raw into something beautiful. This former Art instructor continues to give back to the community by donating his sculptures to numerous charity events in the Tampa Bay area. This rising artist’s work can be seen at numerous galleries across Florida as well as many nationally ranked Art Festivals. |
